Antonov calls SDC to normalize relations with the Syrian government
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – In an exclusive meeting with Newsweek two days ago, the Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov encouraged the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) to normalize relations with the Syrian government.
“We encourage the Kurdish opposition to normalize relations with the Syrian central authority,” Antonov said.
“Russia engaged in a close dialogue with all parties involved including the SDC,” Antonov added.
“We consider it essential to continue the de-conflicting dialogue on Syria,” he noted, “Russia is ready to assist.”
Antonov pointed out that as ties between the US and the SDC are clos and strong, “Washington should do the same.”
He indicated that Joe Biden’s administration repeatedly emphasized the need to preserve Syria’s territorial integrity.
Concerning US military presence in Syria, Antonov said “the Presence of the US troops in Syria is illegal. The occupation of almost one-third of the Syrian territory is unacceptable.”
