Dialogue with Syrian government does not mean giving it legitimacy: Ilham Ahmad
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Our dialogue with the Syrian government does not mean giving it legitimacy, Ilham Ahmad, president of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), said on Saturday.
Ilham Ahmad made her speech during a meeting, which was held in the city of Raqqa to evaluate the outcomes of the National Conference for the People of Jazira and the Euphrates.
Politicians, intellectuals, civil activists and officials of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) attended the meeting.
“We have achieved no steps in terms of dialogue with Damascus in the last period,” Ilham Ahmad said.
“Russia attempted to play the role of a guarantor between the Autonomous Administration and the Syrian government but it could not,” she added.
“However, the Russians still try.”
“Success or failure of the dialogue with Damascus is unclear and has lots of ambiguity around it because of the governments’ intransigent,” she noted.
Ilham Ahmad pointed out that Damascus may see itself as the strong party and the one who won the conflict.
Concerning normalizing relations with the Syrian government, The US statements were so clear that Damascus still loses legitimacy and that the US stopped normalization with it, the SDC top leader indicated.
