Stockholm meeting aims to unify Syrian democratic opposition powers, SDC

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – The Stockholm meeting aims to unify Syrian opposition democratic powers and build a national entity, Ilham Ahmad, president of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), said during a meeting in Raqqa city, north Syria, on Saturday.

Ilham Ahmad made her speech during a meeting, which was held in the city of Raqqa to evaluate the outcomes of the National Conference for the People of Jazira and the Euphrates.

Politicians, intellectuals, civil activists and officials of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) attended the meeting.  

On December 13, a conference under the name “Stockholm Consultative Meeting for Democratic Powers and Figures: Necessity, Possibilities and Hope” was held at the invitation of preparatory committee and Olof Palme International Center in the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

The meeting aimed to put a timetable for the future of a new Syria. Syrian opposition figures and independent figures from outside and inside Syria attended the meeting. 

Pier Uranus, in charge of the Syrian file in the Swedish Foreign Ministry and Kenneth G Forshund, chairman of the Committee of Foreign Affairs in the Swedish Parliament also attended the meeting.  

The meeting concluded with unanimously agreement to convene a conference for Syrian democratic opposition figures and setting an agenda for the work of the conference, Ilham Ahmed said, adding no more details.
