Iran-backed militants killed, wounded in Syria’s Palmyra
PALMYRA, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, four of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Crops (IRGC) lost their lives and five others were wounded in an unknown attack against their military point south of Palmyra, in central Syria.
“Unknown armed individuals who were driving 4wheels cars targeted two military points of the IRGC near the Sawwana oil well, south of Palmyra, with machineguns and RPGs,” a military source of the government forces told North Press.
“Due to the attack four Syrian militants lost their lives and five others were wounded and two cars of the IRGC were burnt before the attackers managed to flee heading to the Badia,” the source added under the condition of anonymity.
“The attackers did not raise any banners as in the previous attacks when the attackers raise the Islamic State Organization (ISIS) banners after carrying out the attack,” the source noted.
Pro-Iranian factions run large swathes of the Syrian desert and areas in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
Yesterday, a Syrian government officer was killed in an IED explosion that targeted his car in the desert of Homs.
