Turkey’s affiliated opposition faction kidnaps people in Syria’s Afrin

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Members of the Turkish-backed Civil Police faction arrested a person from the countryside of Afrin, north Syria, the Human Rights Organization-Afrin said on Thursday.

The 35-year old Bayram Muhammad Mustafa, from the Maabatli district, was arrested by the opposition faction on charges of sending and receiving money transfers from the SDF-controlled areas, the organization added.

He was taken to one of the faction’s prisons in the city of Afrin, and his fate is still unknown.

Yesterday, the Turkish-backed armed factions arrested a civilian in a village of Afrin countryside on charges of being a guard during the time of the Autonomous Administration, the organization said.

It added that the factions demanded $5,000 for his release.

Since the beginning of 2021, 660 people, including, 11 children and 37 women, have been detained in Afrin city and its countryside, the Violation Documentation Center in Northern Syria (VDC-NSY) announced.

The city of Afrin and its villages, north of Aleppo, have been controlled by Turkish forces and the affiliated factions since March 2018.

The Afrin region has been witnessing cases of killing, kidnapping and arrest, in addition to frequent bombings, amid the inability of the factions controlling it to settle the security in the region.
