HTS kills government soldier in Syria’s Aleppo, Khmeimim
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press – A soldier of the Syrian government forces was killed in targeting by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra Front) in Aleppo countryside, the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria in Khmeimim Air Base announced yesterday.
“A Syrian soldier was killed by a sniper of al-Nusra Front in Fatterah town in Idlib governorate,” Deputy Head of the Russian Reconciliation Center for Syria Rear Admiral Vadim Kolet said yesterday.
“During the past 24 hours, the al-Nusra Front launched seven attacks in the de-escalation zone in Idlib region,” Kolet added.
Also, two operations were launched each in Idlib, Aleppo and Latakia, and another in Hama, according to Kolet.
On December 4, four soldiers of the Syrian government forces were wounded by snipers in the governorates of Idlib, Latakia and Aleppo, the Russian Reconciliation Center announced.
On November 23, the Russian Center announced that four members of the government forces were killed and another was wounded, in a bombing by armed factions in the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria.
This came amidst the Russian stress on eliminating all the terrorist armed factions in northwest Syria.
In a speech before the Russian Federation Council on December 1, Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, said his country would continue its efforts to completely eliminate extremist groups in Syria and settle the regional crises.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
