We will keep subsidizing bread: Syria’s Autonomous Administration
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, the co-chair of the Economy and Agriculture Board of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) Salman Barudo stated that they will keep on providing subsidized bread despite its high cost and smuggle attempts.
“1,500,000 SYP is the real cost of making bread of one ton of flour but it is sold for 95,000 SYP,” he said.
Regarding the Decision 11 to increase the price of one bundle of bread of 1,250 grams, to 300 SYP instead of 250, Barudo said it is not a really ‘increase in price’ compared to the cost of production.
“We have pledged to provide subsidized bread to the citizens of northeast Syria despite all challenges,” he added.
The reason the amount of bread has reduced recently is that subsidized flour is smuggled, Baroudo noted.
On November 7, the AANES Executive Council decided to establish counter-smuggling committees to stop the smuggle of subsidized flour and fuels.
The committees include members of the Supply, the Customs, the Asayish and Fuel.
Every party found guilty of smuggling flour is punished according to the law.
