Olaf Scholz new German chancellor

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, Olaf Scholz, a German politician from the Social Democratic Party (SDP), wins 395 votes of Member of the Parliament.

Scholz wins over Angel Merkel who is member of the Christian Democratic Union and served as Germany’s chancellor for 16 years.

He served as federal minister of Finance and vice-chancellor under Merkel from 2018 to 2021.

Scholz takes his oath of office as Germany’s ninth post-war chancellor.

Scholz was born in 1958 the city of Osnabrueck, Germany and joined the SDP in 1975. He is described as level-headed and a steady person. His motto is “I can only distribute what I have”.

Earlier, Merkel said “I will sleep soundly with Scholz being chancellor”.    

Scholz has long backed the idea of mandating Covid-19 vaccines to put limit the coronavirus infections.

It is worth mentioning that he has called for the reintegration of refugees into the German society, as several news outlets reported.
