Turkish border guards kill civilian in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, a civilian was deadly shot by the Turkish border guards (gendarmerie), while trying to cross into Turkish territory, northwest of Idlib.

“The young man, Muhammad Razzouk, was killed at the hands of the gendarmerie while trying to enter Turkish territory near the Harem area near the Syrian-Turkish border,” local sources told North Press.

“The young killed man came from the village of Kafredriyan in the northern countryside of Idlib, and was on his way to the Turkish lands to work there, as a result of the poor living conditions in the Idlib countryside,” the sources added.

Most of those who try to enter Turkish territory resort to dangerous smuggling routes because it is the only way to reunite their families or secure a job to meet their needs.

At the beginning of November, two civilians were killed by the Turkish border guards while trying to cross the Syrian-Turkish border in north of Idlib, and a few days earlier, another civilian was killed in a similar way.

Civilians, who try to cross the Syrian-Turkish border in the countryside of Idlib and Aleppo, are usually severely beaten and tortured at the hands of the Turkish gendarmerie, and dozens of them have lost their lives so far.
