We work to end violations against children: Syria’s Autonomous Administration

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, an official of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) stated they are currently working to end violations committed against children in the region.

Yesterday, the Child Protection offices in AANES convened their annual meeting in the Executive Council hall in Raqqa city, northern Syria, where they discussed the mechanism of the offices work and the challenges they encounter.

They also discussed several complaints filed in regard to recruiting underage children in combats and the number of minors demobilized.

Nerwoz Ali, co-chair of the AANES Child Protection, said the office functions to stop violations against the children so that they obtain their full rights.

“Work is underway to eradicate this phenomena, it is just a matter of time,” she said.

She pointed out that the AANES General Council shall be prepared soon to approve a law of child protection.

Ali declined mentioning names of the minors demobilized as saying ‘this is work privacy’.

The Child Protection Office was activated in October 2020. This step came after an agreement signed by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Commander-in-Chief, Mazloum Abdi, with the United Nations to prevent the recruitment of underage children and their use as combatants in armed conflict.
