QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Syrian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Bassam Tomeh, discussed with an Iranian delegation cooperation between the two sides in the fields of oil, gas and mineral resources and the need to upgrade and develop them on all levels.
“The Syrian minister discussed, with Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Reza Fatemi Amin and an accompanying delegation, ways to develop and enhance cooperation in the fields of oil, gas and mineral wealth,” the state-run SANA news agency said.
“The two sides touched on cooperation in the field of converting cars to work on natural gas (CNG) and securing the oil sector’s needs of chemicals and oil equipment,” SANA added.
The two sides also dealt with enhancing cooperation in the fields of geology and mineral resources through activating the memorandum of understanding that was signed between the General Institute of Geology and the Iranian Geological Institute, and the exchange of mineral wealth products with the Syria’s needs of domestic gas and oils needed by the oil blending plant in Homs, according to SANA.
Minister Tomeh pointed out that there are many memoranda of understanding and agreements between the two countries in the field of the work of the Ministry of Oil, which have entered into force and are being followed up.
Tomeh noted that the ideas that were put forward could be the core of broader cooperation that promotes the oil industry in the interest of both sides.
In turn, the Iranian minister expressed his country’s keenness to strengthen relations with Syria in all fields, especially the oil, gas and mineral resources’ sectors to serve common interests.
The two sides agreed to discuss further cooperation projects and to designate their respective stakeholders to follow up and expedite their implantation.
