Government forces shell opposition-held areas in northwest Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Syrian government forces bombed the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions’ sites in the countryside of Aleppo and Idlib, northwest Syria.
The opposition factions’ sites near Kafr Ta’al town, west of Aleppo, were heavily bombed by the government forces, North Press reported military sources of the opposition.
Two people were killed and five others were injured in the shelling. The injured were transported to medical points for treatment, the sources said.
The government forces bombed the villages and towns of Kansafra, Ma’ar Zav and al-Rweiha in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, with heavy artillery and rockets, the sources added.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
