QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, a quantity of mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) left by Islamic State organization (ISIS) were destroyed by a local organization in the countryside of Shaddadi town, northeast Syria.
“On November 25, 2021, we destroyed more than 100 mines and explosive devices left by ISIS during its presence in the area,” Roj Mine Control Organization (RMCO) said in a statement.
The destruction process took place in the countryside of Shaddadi town, south of Hasakah, which is depopulated, taking into account the principles and measures of safety, environmental protection and the impact of the explosion’s scope, it added.
The destruction process was carried out under the supervision of the organization’s mine engineering teams, who have experience certificates and were trained by international trainers that enable them to carry out bombing operations and in the presence of international partners present in northeast Syria.
This is the third eliminating operation within three months, in an effort to destroy all remnants of explosives and mines that threaten the lives of civilians, and also to ensure that these explosive materials are not used for other purposes, according to the statement.
RMCO, Roj Mine Control Organization, is a local non-governmental, non-profit organization that was established at the end of 2016, and works in coordination with the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, to remove mines and remnants of war in the regions of northeast Syria and raise awareness of their dangers.
