Airstrike on Syria’s Homs, explosions heard in Lebanon

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – In the early hours of Wednesday morning, the central area of Syria was targeted by an airstrike, killing two people and wounding another.

“Israel carried out an aggression airstrike from the direction of northeast Beirut targeting some points in the center of Syria,” the Syrian government said in a statement.

The explosions were heard even in some areas in Lebanon, according to news outlets.

“The aggression killed two civilians and wounded another with serious injuries. Six soldiers were also wounded in the airstrikes and some material losses were reported,” the pro-state SANA news agency said.

The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said the Israeli airstrikes targeted three villages in the western countryside of Damascus where fighters affiliated to the Lebanese Hezbollah are stationed.

SOHR counted 39 airstrikes last year over Syria launched by Israel targeting Iranian-backed militias.

On November 17, Israel launched two missiles from the Syrian Golan Heights targeting an empty building south of the Syrian capital, Damascus.

In October, Israel hit areas in Palmyra city, in the east countryside of Homs, according to SANA.

Naftali Bennet, Israeli Prime Minister, stated earlier that Israel is launching a cold war against Iran and that Israel will do its best to eliminate the “Iranian threats”.
