Turkish violations in NE Syria continue: SDF spokesman

TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – The various fronts in northeastern Syria have recently witnessed violations and military escalation by the Turkish forces that targeted populated areas and vital and service facilities, Aram Hanna, the official spokesman for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), said on Monday.

In an exclusive statement to North Press, Hanna said, “The threat still exists, but our forces have taken all necessary defensive measures to repel any possible aggression along the lines of contact towards our areas.”

Lately, Turkey has suspended its potential military operation against northeast Syria, as a result of the continued Russian and American refusal and the absence of any consensus in this regard.

“We have contacts and relations with the active countries in the Syrian affairs regarding these violations. Our efforts are focused on stopping these attacks, because their results will be negative,” he added.

“Any attack will open the way for terrorism to reactivate. This is what we have recently witnessed after our forces targeted a cell that was planning for an attack on al-Sina’a prison in Hasakah, which shelters many ISIS fighters,” the SDF spokesman stressed.

The Sina’a Prison houses thousands of ISIS detainees, who were arrested by SDF during the years of the war against the extremist organization.

“Recently we have seized two VBIEDs in Deir ez-Zor that were equipped to be used against al-Sina’a prison in Hasakah. ISIS is still trying to reconfigure its ranks and carry out massive attacks to cover up the pursuit of militants in the occupied areas.”

On November 8, the General Command of the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish), said in a statement, their special forces, in cooperation with the Global Coalition, thwarted an attack planned by an ISIS cell in Hasakah on al-Sina’a prison in Ghweiran neighborhood, south of Hasakah.

Al-Sina’a Prison in Hasakah witnessed repeated cases of disobedience by ISIS members, the last of which was at the end of October, during which all roads leading to the prison were closed by the Asayish.
