ERBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Sunday, parties to the Sudanese crisis reached an agreement that would allow Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok to return to head a new government after he was ousted in a coup by the army commander, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, last month.
“A political agreement has been reached between Major General al-Burhan, Abdalla Hamdok, political forces, and civil society organizations on the return of Hamdok to his position and the release of political detainees, since the military coup,” Fadlallah Burma Nasir, leader of the Sudanese Umma Party and one of the mediators, said in press statements.
Nasir added that Hamdok will form an independent government of competencies, and all political detainees will be released within the framework of the agreement between the army and civilian political parties.
This agreement comes after the bloody events in which about 40 anti-coup protesters died since the end of last October.
