Residents of Syria’s Deir ez-Zor call for continued support for their hospital

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, residents of the town of al-Shuhail, 40 km east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria, protested calling for continued support for the town’s hospital, after one of the sponsoring organizations said it would stop its support at the end of this month.

The European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), officially informed the hospital management yesterday that it would stop supporting the hospital at the end of this month.

“We are protesting for calling on the donors to continue their support amid the deteriorating health situation in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor,” North Press reported Ali al-Saleh, a resident of al-Shuhail town.

“The hospital provides thousands of residents of the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor with medical, ambulatory and surgical services, in addition to conducting operations and other services to all the residents of the region for free,” he added.

The hospital has several departments, including: a pediatric, surgical, orthopedic, internal, gynecological, urological, incubator, laboratory, radiology, and leukemia department.

The hospital also has a quarantine department for those infected with coronavirus”, which is the only in the region.

The residents called on international and humanitarian organizations to continue supporting so that the hospital continues working, as it serves a large number of people, in light of the difficult medical and health conditions of the population in that area.
