Iraqi forces start operation against ISIS in Hamrin Mountain

IRBIL, KRG, Iraq (North Press) – On Wednesday, the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF-Hashd al-Shaabi) announced it started a second security operation to fight the Islamic State organization (ISIS) in the vicinity of Hamrin lake within Iraq’s eastern governorate Diyala.

“Diyala Operation Command began a security operation from four axes east of the Hamrin lake in the mountains Qizil Ribat area,” PMF’s media said in a statement.

The operation aims to chase members of ISIS, search and secure the area, according to the statement.

On November 13, the Iraqi forces concluded a security operation from eight axes in Aisha military camp, the area between Baghdad-Kirkuk and Qarah Tabbah road in the Hamrin mountain. ISIS fighters used to shelter in Aisha military camp in Diyala governorate.

150 km was inspected and cleared, 14 hideouts containing logistic supplies as well as a tunnel were destroyed, and a case containing explosive devices, equipment to dig tunnels and medical supplies belonging to ISIS were seized.
