Russian stances regarding Syria’s AANES not nihilistic like Turkey: politician
WASHINGTON, USA (North Press) – Russian stances regarding the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) are not nihilistic as those of Syria, Turkey, and Iran, a Syrian politician said on Tuesday.
“Syria, Iran and Turkey totally reject the AANES’ experience and this is why the latter searches for ways to start discussions with Russia,” the Syrian writer and political analyst, Restom Mahmoud, added.
“The AANES is not delusional regarding the Russian positions, but it wants to go through all possible ways that may make life of residents of north and east Syria more safe and stable through cooperation with Russia,” he noted.
The AANES also relies on the military and geopolitical importance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) which imposes itself to the negotiation table with Russia, according to the Syria politician.
Meanwhile, Mahmoud ruled out the possibility of reaching any understandings with Turkey even if it witnesses any internal political changes.
“Turkey so far does not accept or see that the Kurds have obtained their rights in any part of Kurdistan where the Kurds are present,” Ilham Ahmad, President of the Executive Committee of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), said in October.
“We demanded the international community that it plays its real role in solving the Kurdish issue. So far Turkey takes its rejection and strength from the weak position of the international community towards the issue of the 50 million Kurds,” Ahmad told North Press.
She sees that the question that is always posed regarding the guarantees to be provided by SDF to Turkey should be converted to what are the guarantees provided by Turkey to peoples of northeast Syria in order not to be attacked by Turkey?
