Syrian government shelling of opposition-held areas in Idlib injures four

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, four people were wounded in artillery shelling carried out by Syrian government forces on the opposition factions-held areas east of Idlib, northwest Syria.

“The government forces bombed the towns of al-Ruwaiha and Taftanaz, south and east of Idlib,” North press reported sources in the Civil Defense (White Helmets) of the opposition.

“Four people in the town of Taftanaz were injured with varying severity injuries, where they were taken to nearby medical points for treatment,” the sources added.

North Press, however, was unable to verify the validity of the information from other sources.

Earlier today, the government forces, stationed in the town of Kafranbel and its checkpoints, bombed the faction’s positions in the villages and towns of al-Fatira, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhen, Kansafra and Fleifel in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, with heavy artillery and rockets, North Press reported military sources in the opposition.

The bombardment hit the opposition moves near al-Sermaniyah and Dweir al-Akrad, west of Hama, in addition to areas in Jabal al-Akrad north of Latakia.

For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
