Jordanian Syrian Joint Industrial Free Zone to reopen soon

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Irfan al-Khasawneh, Director General of the Jordanian-Syrian Joint Industrial Free Zone, suggested on Sunday that the free zone will be reopened before the end of this year.

“Preparations for reopening the free zone are currently being completed, as the two countries [Jordan and Syria] are working to complete the requirements for the resumption of work at the free zone after years of hiatus,” al-Khasawneh told CNN Arabic.

The Jordanian official talked about the reactivation of more than 560 former contracts of different investments, in addition to 5,000 new contracts for the new investors.

The maintenance work was completed after ten months of work, and it is likely that the electronic connection work will be completed within days, according to him.

After his recent visit to Damascus, he stressed that “the security situation is good.”

“The zone provides about 2,000 job opportunities for residents of the area near the crossing on the Jordanian side, and similar numbers from the residents of Daraa in Syria, as was the case before the closure,” al-Khasawneh noted.
