QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The US stressed, yesterday, it will keep its military presence in northeast Syria and will not withdraw its forces.
“ISIS poses a direct threat both to the Syrian people and US national security interests,” the US Embassy in Syria tweeted yesterday.
It said the US forces will keep the military presence in Syria to insure eliminating terrorist groups.
“The US will maintain our military presence in Syria to ensure the threat from the terrorist group is eliminated,” it added.
“The Syrian and American people deserve nothing less,” the US embassy stressed.
On October 8, the US State Department spokesperson told North Press that Biden had expressed support for maintaining the US forces in northeast Syria to support local partners and prevent an ISIS resurgence.
“ISIS and its affiliates continue to present a threat to our collective security,” he said.
Late in September, representative of Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) in Washington, Sinem Muhammad said, Biden’s administration officials expressed their desire to keep US forces in northeast Syria.
She cited US administration officials saying that this aims at ensuring the establishment of long-term stability in the region and enabling it to withstand any future challenges.
