Mine explosion claims life of civilian in Syria’s Manbij countryside

MANBIJ, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, a civilian lost his life as a result of a landmine explosion left over by the Islamic State (ISIS) that was planted in his land.

“The landmine exploded and killed the 50-year-old Hussein al-Ramadan lost his life while he was plowing his land,” a resident of the village of Qeret Wiran, in the northern countryside of Manbij, told North Press.

Although residents warned al-Ramadan against the risk of unexploded mines and ordinances left over by ISIS in the area, he insisted to plow his land, the source added.

Whenever, he started the plowing, a strong voice was heard and residents rushed towards the source of the voice, but they found al-Ramadan had lost his life immediately due to the landmine explosion.

On August 24, a child lost his life during a landmine explosion while he was playing with friends near his house in the village of  Arab Hassen Kabir.

Many villages and towns are still subjected to the risk of unexploded mines planted in the region by ISIS before the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) liberated it from ISIS.
