Unknown gunmen killed doctor in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North press) – On Thursday, a doctor was killed by unidentified gunmen, with the aim of theft, in a town north of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.

“Unidentified persons deadly shot the doctor Muhammad al-Bakhit on the main road while he was going to his drug store, in the town of Athman, north of Deir ez-Zor,” a local source from the town of al-Izba, 15 km north of Deir ez-Zor, told North Press.

According to eyewitnesses, after killing him, the armed men stole his mobile phone and sums of money.

Al-Bakhit came from the town of Khisham, which is under the control of Syrian government forces in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

Recently, the countryside of Deir ez-Zor has been witnessing cases of kidnapping and assassination of members of the SDF, employees of the Autonomous Administration, tribal dignitaries and civilians for unknown reasons. The Islamic State organization (ISIS) has claimed responsibility for most of these cases.

Yesterday, two members of the Asayish were killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Hajin town east of Deir ez-Zor.
