Infighting between armed factions leaves wounded in Syria’s Tel Abyad

TEL ABYAD, Syria (North Press) – A civilian and seven members of Turkish-backed armed opposition factions were wounded on Thursday in infighting between them in the Tel Abyad area, northeast Syria.

“Clashes erupted between gunmen affiliated with the Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction, Liwa al-Khattab and Abu Jihad Qadisiyah in the town of Hamam al-Turkman, 30 km southeast of the city of Tel Abyad,” North Press reported an informed source.

“Ahrar al-Sharqiya faction took control of the grain mills in Hamam Turkman and wounded seven members of the Liwa al-Khattab and Abu Jihad Qadisiyah faction,” the source added.

“The Liwa al-Khattab attacked Suluk Hospital with machine guns because the hospital did not receive its wounded members,” said the source.

“Members of Liwa al-Khattab of the Sham Legion shot the civilian Nabil al-Shehada in the village of Sherkrak in the southern countryside of Tel Abyad, and wounded him. He was then taken to Turkey for treatment,” sources from the town of al-Ali Bajaliya said.

“A civilian car was robbed by force of arms by a checkpoint of the al-Majd faction, west of the village of Ain al-Arous in the western countryside of Tel Abyad. The members of the checkpoint pursued the car and shot it directly, and then stole what the driver had,” a source from the city of Tel Abyad told North Press.

For a while, the region has been witnessing security and military tensions among Turkish-backed armed factions, as a result of disputes over areas of influence, fuel and bread.

On November 8, three members of the Turkish-backed armed factions were wounded by gunmen of one of the factions in Tel Abyad.

The areas under the control of the Turkish forces and the affiliated armed opposition factions in northeastern Syria have witnessed a state of security chaos amid the inability of the controlling forces to settle security in the region.

The Turkish forces and the Turkish-backed factions have been running Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad since late 2019 following an attack displacing thousands of people.
