Russian bombardment leaves children casualties in Syria’s Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, a man and four children were killed and others were wounded as a result of Russian airstrikes on Turkish-backed armed factions in the countryside of Idlib, northwest Syria.

Russian warplanes targeted residential buildings and poultries that host IDPs in the area between the city of Idlib and Ma’arat Mesrin, north of Idlib, with three airstrikes and missiles, eyewitnesses told North Press.

As a result of the airstrikes, five civilians including three children and an IDP woman, of the southern countryside of Aleppo, were killed, the eyewitnesses added.

Meanwhile, other individuals were wounded during the Russian attack and they were transferred to medical points near the area, according to the same sources.

Syrian government forces targeted the villages and towns of al-Fatira, Benin, al-Ruwaiha, Fleifel, Deir Sunbul, Sfuhen, and Kansafra in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, with artillery and missiles.

Additionally, the government forces shelled, from the Base 46, the villages of Kafr Amma, Kafr Ta’al, and Tedil, west of Aleppo, while the village of Sermaniyah, west of Hama, and Kabbana hills in Jabal al-Akrad, in the northern countryside of Latakia, witnessed a similar bombardment.

Al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations’ Room announced the targeting of military posts of the government forces in the Base 46 and Mizanaz, in the western countryside of Aleppo, with artillery.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
