UAE senior diplomat visits Syria after a decade of war

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, Syrian President Bashar Assad received the UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan is the most senior Emirati dignitary to visit Syria in the decade since the eruption of the Syrian civil war. 

During the meeting, they discussed the bilateral relations between Syria and the UAE, and the development of bilateral cooperation in various fields of common interest, according to Presidency of the Syrian Arab Republic’s Facebook account.

The two parties discussed intensifying efforts to explore new horizons for this cooperation, especially in vital sectors in order to strengthen investment partnerships in these sectors.

They discussed ways to boost joint investments in vital sectors. The two agreed to continue consultations and coordination on various challenges facing the region.

Assad stressed the close brotherly relations between Syria and the UAE, and noted the objective and correct positions adopted by the UAE, and that the UAE has always stood by the Syrian people.

As for bin Zayed, he stressed that the UAE supports the efforts paid to stabilize Syria considering that events happened in Syria affected all Arab countries and that the UAE is always ready to support Syrian people.

The two parties tackled the regional and Arabic conditions and they agreed to continue the discussions and coordination over issues and challenges witnessed by Arabic areas in order to fulfill the ambitions of their people away from any foreign interventions.
