SDF members lost lives in clashes with militants in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

Deir ez-Zor, Syria (North Press) – A leader and a member of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) lost their lives yesterday, in two separate armed clashes in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.  

A military source from the SDF in the town of Thiban, 50 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said Ibrahim al-Shehab, 32, one of the leaders of the SDF lost his life in an armed clash launched by unknown gunmen yesterday evening at his military point in the town.

Al-Shehab, who hails from the town of Thiban, was a regiment commander in the villages adjacent to the town within the ranks of the SDF, according to the source.

The towns of al-Busayrah, al-Shuhail and Thiban in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor witnessed tension yesterday evening, after which the SDF and the US-led Global Coalition brought in military reinforcements to deploy in the area, the source added.  

Also yesterday, a member of the SDF lost his life in an armed clash with members of the Islamic State (ISIS) west of Deir ez-Zor.

In a related context, a resident of Abu Khashab town, west of Deir ez-Zor, told North Press that an SDF member lost his life in a clash with ISIS militants near the camp in the center of the town.  

The gunmen were wearing the uniform of ISIS and chanted its slogans as they fled, according to eyewitnesses.

Two days ago, the Syrian Democratic Forces arrested three members of ISIS in Abu Khashab camp in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

Recently, the SDF and the Global Coalition have intensified their security operations to pursue ISIS sleeper cells in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

ISIS sleeper cells have recently intensified their operations in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, targeting SDF military points and checkpoints.
