SDF military points attacked in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, unidentified gunmen targeted several military sites of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
Four military points of the Deir ez-Zor Military Council in the towns of al-Zer, al-Shuhail and al-Busayrah in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, were targeted by unidentified gunmen, with rocket-propelled grenades and machine guns. No reports of the size of the damage were reported, North Press reported military sources of the SDF.
The number of gunmen was large, and clashes erupted between the two parties, starting from six in the evening, and they are still continuing in separate areas of the towns, the source added.
A great reinforcement was brought in by the SDF and the Global Coalition, backed by warplanes, helicopters, and huge armored vehicles from the Koniko gas field and al-Omar oil field towards the aforementioned towns, the source noted.
ISIS sleeper cells have recently intensified their operations in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, targeting SDF military points and checkpoints.
Backing by the US-led Global Coalition, the SDF managed to kill a leader of ISIS and arrested two others by airdropping in the town of al-Sabha, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, at dawn today.
