Migrants, including Syrians, to enter Poland

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Many migrants, mostly from Syria, Iraq and Iran, stuck at the border with Belarus, are currently preparing to enter en masse into Poland, Poland announced on Monday.

“They have just headed for the Polish border. They will try to enter it en masse,” Stanisłav Harin, a spokesman for the Polish Special Services, tweeted.

In another tweet, Harin accused the border guards of directing the stuck migrants towards the Polish territory, describing what is happening as “another Belarusian hostile act targeting Poland.”

Late in October, the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced that his country would build impenetrable borders with Belarus, even if the European Union refused to financially support them.

Van Leeuwen, an international aid worker, earlier warned of more deaths on Poland’s border with Belarus.

In the past weeks, at least eight people, mostly from Iraq, Iran and Syria, have been killed while trying to cross from Belarus.

In October, Amnesty International accused Poland of illegally returning refugees to Belarus.

Amnesty said it has evidence, based on investigations it conducted, proves that 32 asylum-seekers had been forcibly returned to Belarus. It described the procedures attributed to the Polish authorities as “contrary to European rules”.
