Syria receives 1,3 million Sinovac coronavirus vaccines: WHO
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syria has received over 1,3 million doses of Sinovac coronavirus vaccine, World Health Organization (WHO) tweeted on Monday.
“Syria has received over 1,3 million doses of Sinovac vaccines through COVAX,” WHO wrote on twitter.
This batch is the largest to arrive to Syria via COVAX after a first consignment in April this year.
On April 22, This first batch of the coronavirus vaccines including 203,000 doses of the Astra Zeneca vaccine from the Serum Institute of India arrived in Damascus through the COVAX Facility.
The vaccines would be allocated to frontline health workers, including health workers in northeast Syria.
Meanwhile, the vaccines arrived in Syria in two shipments the first was delivered to Damascus including 203,000 doses, and the second was delivered to areas in northwest Syria with 53,800 doses.
The total toll of coronavirus infections in Syrian government-held areas has come up to 44,899 including 2,613 deaths and 26,932 recoveries, according to the information office in the Syrian government.
Meanwhile, the total toll of coronavirus cases in areas run by the Autonomous Administration of northeast Syria reached 36,450 including 1,432 deaths and 2,475 Recoveries.
As for areas in Syria’s northwest, they total toll has raised to 89,625 infections including 1,892 deaths and 52,648 recoveries.
