Government and opposition exchange shelling in northwest Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Syrian government forces renewed their bombing on the armed opposition factions’ sites in Hama, Idlib and Aleppo with artillery and missile. The armed factions, in turn, bombed the government forces’ sites in Idlib and Aleppo.
The government forces bombed the positions of the armed factions’ sites in the villages and towns of al-Fatira, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhun, Kansafra, the outskirts of al-Bara and Benin in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, with heavy artillery and rockets, North Press reported military sources.
The sites of the factions near Khirbet al-Naqous in the Ghab Plain, west of Hama, and al-Kabbana in Jabal al-Akrad, north of Lattakia, were also bombed by the government forces, but no casualties were reported ,the sources added.
The government forces targeted the opposition’s sites in the villages of Kafr Amma, Kafr Ta’al and the outskirts of Kafr Nouran, west of Aleppo, according to the sources.
The factions targeted the positions of the government forces’ points in the Zawiya Mountain area, with heavy artillery shells and rocket launchers, a military source from al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room told North Press.
The government forces’ sites, near of the town of Urum al-Kubra, west of Aleppo, were bombed by al-Fateh al-Mubin which managed to destroy a military bulldozer near the Miznaz area, according to the military source.
North Press, however, was unable to check the information from other sources.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
