IDPs of Syria’s Afrin hold Russia, US responsible over Turkish threats

ALEPPO NORTHERN COUNTRYSIDE, Syria (North Press) – A former official of the Autonomous Administration of Afrin District, which is operating in areas in northern countryside of Aleppo, Suleiman Ja’far holds Russia and the US responsible for the ongoing Turkish attacks and threats against areas of Syria’s northeast and north of Aleppo, where most of IDPs of Afrin are residing.

“Turkey cannot cross the border into Syrian territory unless it obtains both American and Russian approval,” Ja’far said.

In an exclusive statement to North Press, he expressed his fears over granting a Russian green light to Turkey to conduct a new military operation in the area as it did in Afrin.

Recently, media outlets have cited Turkish officials’ statements including Turkish president Erdogan over an imminent military operation to be carried out in the town of Tel Rifaat in Aleppo northern countryside and other areas in northeast Syria.

Speaking of a military operation against northeast Syria yesterday, Erdogan said: “It will be carried out when it is a must, adding “it cannot be undone.”

Although military analysts and leaders of the Syrian opposition factions in Idlib have excluded any Turkish military operation, whether in northwest or northeast Syria, IDPs of Afrin fear that new potential agreements and deals will be concluded at their expense.

Meanwhile, IDPs of Afrin residing in Sardam Camp in the northern countryside of Aleppo told North Press that if Turkey, which seized their houses and lands in Afrin in 2018 after the Olive Branch military operation, implemented its threats to invade Shahba region, to where they fled, there will be no other place to flee to.

Suleiman Ja’far called on the US and Russia to assume to their obligations and play their humanitarian role to halt the Turkish threats, which will draw a humanitarian disaster and massacre against civilians, if it is implemented.
