Government and opposition exchange shelling in northwest Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Monday evening, military escalation and intense exchange of shelling between Syrian government forces and Syrian armed opposition factions intensified in separate areas within the de-escalation zone, northwest Syria.
The government forces escalated their artillery and missile bombardment on the factions’ points in the villages and towns of al-Fatira, Kafr Oweid, Sfuhun, Kansafra, Fleifel, Deir Sunbul, Benin and al-Bara in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, military sources told North Press.
The bombing caused material damage, while no casualties were reported, the sources added.
The government forces targeted the villages of al-Enkawi, al-Qarqur, al-Sermaniyah and Qeleidin in Ghab Plain, west of Hama, according to military sources.
Responding to the government bombing, al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room targeted the government forces in the village of al-Amqiya, west of Hama, and the villages of al-Malaja, al-Dar al-Kabira, Hazarin and Ma’arat Mokhas, south of Idlib, according to the same sources.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
