Coronavirus vaccine centers in Syria’s Hasakah witness high turnout
HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) – Centers for coronavirus vaccines in Hasakah, northeast Syria, have witnessed a remarkable turnout in tandem with the recent increase in the number of the infections in the region, a source from the World Health Organization (WHO) said on Monday.
“The vaccine available in Hasakah is the British AstraZeneca. It is obtained via WHO. The Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, which is obtained through the Syrian Ministry of Health, is also available in the governorate” the source, who preferred not to be named, added to North Press.
Patients receive vaccinations at the People’s Hospital (formerly the National Hospital) in the Aziziyah neighborhood and the new medical center (al-Lu’lwa Hospital) inside the security square under the control of the Syrian government, according to the source.
The World Health Organization, in coordination with the Health Directorate of the Syrian government in Hasakah, began a vaccination campaign at al-Lu’lwa Hospital on May 10.
The vaccination campaign was carried out in the People’s Hospital of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), in coordination with the Health Board of the AANES.
“The priority was for the medical and nursing staff when the vaccine was distributed first in May last year, but after that it was given to all who want to get vaccinated in all medical centers in addition to the mobile teams,” the source said.
The turnout for of the vaccine at first “was low, but with the rise in Covid-19 statistics, it has increased significantly,” he noted.
“The doses of the vaccine were given twice to those wishing to receive the vaccine, with an eight-week difference between the two doses during the first period, to be reduced to 4 weeks recently,” he pointed out.
The Health Board of the AANES recorded 16 deaths and 146 new infections with the Covid-19 in northeast Syria on Monday.
