Massive Turkish reinforcements head to Syrian territory

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, Turkish forces sent new batches of military reinforcements to the de-escalation zone, northwest Syria.

“A massive Turkish military convoy including more than 100 military and logistical vehicle have entered through the Kafr Lossin border crossing into Syrian territory,” eyewitnesses told North Press.

Most of the vehicles headed towards the Turkish posts in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, and the M4 Highway near Ariha region.

The convoy included, “armored vehicles, trucks loading ammunition, logistical materials, and concrete blocks, personnel carriers with dozens of soldiers,” according to the eyewitnesses.

On Tuesday, Grand National Assembly of Turkey authorized the presidential motion  to extend the military’s mandate of the President of the Republic to launch cross-border operations in Syria and Iraq by two more years despite internal objection.

The mandate was imposed because “risks and threats posed on Turkish national security by ongoing conflicts near Turkey’s southern land borders “continue to rise.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the Turkish forces sent military reinforcements with more than 50 vehicles to their bases in Zawiya Mountain.

Since its military interference in Syria, the Turkish forces have established more than 70 military points in the areas of Idlib, Aleppo, Hama and Latakia, northwest Syria.

For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
