Drone targets ISIS leader in northeast Syria’s Sere Kaniye

TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, a senior leader of the Islamic State (ISIS) was killed as a result of a drone attack, said to be American, in the countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeast Syria.

Unmanned plane that said to be American targeted a senior leader of ISIS while performing his missions in the village of al-Edwaniye in the countryside of Sere Kaniye, an informed sources told North Press.

As a result of the airstrike, three individuals including an ISIS leader known as Sabahi al-Ibrahim al-Mesleh “Abu Hamza al-Shuhail”, who hails from al-Shuhail village in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, were killed in addition to two of his companions.

Al-Shuhail, who is a member of the Shura Council of ISIS, fled Deir ez-Zor after the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) took control over the entire region east of the Euphrates River in 2018, and was appointed as a leader of the Turkish-backed Division 20, according to the source.

The killing of the ISIS leader Abu Hamza al-Shuhail took place two days after the US announced that they managed to target a senior al-Qaeda leader Abdulhamid al-Matar with a drone in the village of Suluk in the countryside of Sere Kaniye.

Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed factions have been running the city of Sere Kaniye since 2019 after an invasion led to the displacement of tens of thousands of civilians.
