Residents, notables object Russian entry to Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syris (North Press) – On Friday, dozens of residents of the towns of al-Hisan and al-Jeninah, west of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria, took to the street denouncing Russian forces to cross areas held by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in order to reach their posts in the countryside of Raqqa.

The demonstration launched from the town of al-Hisan, 10 kilometers west of Deir ez-Zor, reaching the berm that separate areas held by SDF, west of the town, from that of the Syrian government.

Sheikh Muhammad al-Bashir, the sheikh of al-Bakara clan in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, said that they took to the street to say that they object the crossing of the Russian forces and the Syrian government of the areas held by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in Deir ez-Zor.”

The Russian attempt to pass through the SDF-held areas has witnessed a broad-scale public rejection saying that “killers of their children are not allow to step on their lands.”

“We say any agreement with the Russian enemy is the beginning of a new uprising,” Youssef al-Sho’aybi, a participant in the demonstration west of Deir ez-Zor, said.

“The uprising of the sons of Deir ez-Zor against the attempt of some Russians to enter an area run by AANES according to international agreements is only the first spark of a new uprising that will burn everything,” he added.

The protesters called on the US-led Global Coalition to secure the safety of residents and stabilization for the region.

Additionally, they stressed their rejection of the Russian presence on all Syrian territory describing it as “occupation”.

The protesters appealed to the international community to “oppose any decision permit Russian forces, Syrian government, or Iranian-backed militias to enter AANES-held areas and hold the Syrian government accountability as well as toppling the regime but not recovering it.”

On Thursday, local residents prevented Russian forces from passing through areas held by SDF, in the western countryside of Deir ez-Zor, to those held by the Syrian government.
