Dozens of casualties in government shelling on Syria’s south of Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, more than ten people were killed and about 40 others were wounded in a bombing by Syrian government forces on the city of Ariha, south of Idlib, northwestern Syria.
The government forces, stationed in the city of Saraqib, east of Idlib, bombed residential neighborhoods and main streets in the city of Ariha, south of Idlib, with missiles and heavy artillery shells, eyewitnesses told North Press.
The sources indicated that the bombing resulted in the killing of more than ten people, including children and women, in addition to wounding about 40 others, most of them children, who were taken to medical points near the area.
According to the same sources, the bombing targeted the city when students were going to their schools. Some major markets were also targeted.
Additionally, the bombing targeted the villages and towns of Ma’ar Zaf, al-Fatira, Feleifel, Sfuhun, and Kansafra in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib.
For months, areas in Syria’s northwest have been witnessing mutual shelling between parties to the conflict in different areas amid news on government military reinforcements to different areas in the region.
Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
