Liberating Raqqa is important turning point against terrorism: Syrian politician
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – Liberating the city of Raqqa was a turning point in the war against terrorism in the world, Abdullrahman al-Issa, a politician from Raqqa city, northern Syria, said on Tuesday.
On October 17, 2017, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced the elimination of the Islamic State (ISIS) in Raqqa following battles lasted for 166 days.
After ISIS took control over Raqqa , which they announced their capital in mid-2014, radical organizations had revitalized, al-Issa added.
“The SDF battled for the sake of not only defending Syrian areas that were under ISIS rule, but also to eliminate the core of extremism that formed a threat on the global stability at the time,” al-Issa noted.
He pointed out that the war against terrorism “has taken another turn, not only in Raqqa, but in other countries, and liberating the city from the grip of ISIS goes beyond its position as a Syrian city.
“All the globe was closely monitoring the events in Raqqa,” al-Issa said indicating that the whole world awaited for news from the city.
Many operations that were carried out in international capitals and countries,” have been planned for by ISIS from Raqqa and this is a clear evidence that the danger, which was in the city at that time, was threatening the whole world,” the politician mentioned.
