Syria’s Afrin witnesses alert state by two opposition factions

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday evening, the city of Afrin, north of Aleppo, northwestern Syria, witnessed a military alert state by two opposition factions, following the killing of a displaced person from Rif Dimashq.

A member of the Turkish-backed Levant Front faction fired at a displaced person from Eastern Ghouta, and fled, an eyewitness told North Press.

The Turkish-backed Jaysh al-Islam faction set up security checkpoints throughout the city, amidst mobilization of Levant Front and the tension between the two factions, the eyewitness added.

Groups of Jaysh al-Islam and the Military Police in the city of Afrin began searching the fleeing member, amid the alert state by the two factions.

The city of Afrin and its villages, north of Aleppo, have been controlled by Turkish forces and the affiliated factions since March 2018.

The Afrin region has been witnessing cases of killing, kidnapping and arrest, in addition to frequent bombings, amid the inability of the factions controlling it to settle the security in the region.
