As infections increase, total lockdown is coming in Syria’s Euphrates region
KOBANI, Syria (North Press) – A total lockdown should be imposed in the region again, as the number of the infections with coronavirus is increasing, co-chair of the Health Board of the Euphrates Region, northern Syria, Ahmad Mahmoud, said on Sunday.
“Out of 91 swabs that were taken today, there were 60 positive cases,” Mahmoud told North Press.
“The infection rate is still on the rise, and there are 16 patients in the quarantine center, eight of whom are in critical condition,” Mahmoud added.
The number of the infections during the fourth wave from July 10 until today, in the Euphrates region has reached 485 cases and ten deaths, according to Mahmoud.
“The real numbers of infected people are more than the announced ones, because there are cases that do not come to the health centers for conducting the tests.”
Mahmoud stated that the Crisis Management Team in the Euphrates region will meet in the next two days “to decide to impose the lockdown based on the assessment of the number of infected people that are increasing day by day.”
“The desired outcome of the total lockdown usually appears after the passage of fifteen days,” he indicated.
At the end of September, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria decided to impose a complete lockdown in all regions of northeast Syria, to limit the spread of the virus, which was extended to the third of this month.
