New Israeli airstrikes target Syria’s Homs

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, Israeli jets targeted Syria’s T4 Military Airport with missiles coinciding with two huge explosions that shook Al-Bukamal near Syrian-Iraqi border.

“At around 9:30 p.m. yesterday, Syrian air defenses confronted hostile missiles fired from the al-Tanf area on the Syrian-Iraqi border towards the vicinity of the T-4 Military Airport in the eastern countryside of Homs, and shot down a number of them,” sources close to Syrian government said to News German Agency (dpa).

“As a result of the Israeli attack, six soldiers were wounded and material losses were reported,” pro-government news agency SANA indicated.

Meanwhile, Israeli army has not made any statements on the attack so far.

The dpa cited local sources as saying that two violent explosions hit the city of Al-Bukamal near Syrian-Iraqi border.

Areas in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor witness successive bombardment by the US-led Global Coalition and Israel.

On September 22, media office of Israeli army announced that its helicopter, which was carrying out “routine operational activities,” was shot down in Syria as a result of a “technical defect.”

On September 3, pro-government SANA cited a Syrian military source as saying that Israel carried out an airstrike launched from southeastern Lebanese capital, Beirut, targeting some sites on the outskirts of Damascus.

The T4 Military Airport, which is a key military base for Syrian forces and the forces affiliated with them, has witnessed more than 20 airstrikes since early 2011.

Since the eruption of the Syrian war in March of 2011, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes and missile bombardments on different Syrian areas.

In its annual report, Israeli army said that, during 2020, it targeted about 50 points in Syria, mentioning no details.

During 2020, Israel announced that it conducted 39 airstrikes against points of Iranian militias in Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
