Arms depot exploded in Syria’s Idlib, casualties reported

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, a person was killed and others were injured, who believed to be members of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS-formerly Jabhat al-Nusra), in an explosion inside an arms depot in the city of Idlib, northwest Syria.

A violent explosion shook the neighborhoods of Idlib city at seven o’clock this morning, as a result of the explosion of an ammunition and weapons depot in the State Security neighborhood in the city center of Idlib, local sources told North Press.

The sources added that the explosion led to the killing of one person and the injury of four others, believed to be affiliated with the HTS, which controls the entire city.

The civil defense teams worked to retrieve the victims and transport the injured to medical points near the area, and also worked to put out the fires that broke out as a result of the explosion, according to the sources.

Explosions in weapons and ammunition depots are frequent in opposition-controlled areas in northwestern Syria, which have resulted in casualties among residents due to the unsupervised establishment of these depots near their gatherings.

Residents of Idlib city have previously complained about the presence of weapons and ammunition depots and factions’ headquarters within residential neighborhoods, which poses a great danger to their lives.
