Government completes settlements in Syria’s west of Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, security committee of Damascus government had condition of some wanted individuals settled with the presence of Russian military police in light of the completion of settlements in the city of Nawa, in the western countryside of Daraa.

On Thursday, North Press correspondent said that an agreement was signed between the Syrian government and the dignitaries of Nawa region, which stipulates the entry of the government forces into the region in addition to subjected some wanted persons to settlements in the Rural Development Center in the region.

The new settlement center in the Rural Development Center completed the settlement process this morning amidst weak turnout by residents, local sources told North Press.

On Thursday, the government security committee held a meeting with notables of the city with the attendance of officials of Russian military police.

The security committee informed the city notables that the number of those who were subjected to settlements and the handed over weapons is little, according to the same sources.

The security committee handed a list including 240 names for settlements to the notables and demanded that a larger number of light weapons be handed over, the sources added.

The city of Nawa is the largest population center in the countryside of Daraa and was a headquarter of the interim government of the Syrian opposition which ran southern Syria before the summer of 2018.

The government forces entered the cities and towns of al-Yadoda, Muzayrib, Tafas, Tell Shihab, Sahem Golan, al-Shajara, Da’el, Tasil and others in the western countryside of Daraa.

These steps come as a continuation of the agreement held in early September between the Central Committee and the government forces brokered by Russia.

Daraa was subjected to a suffocating siege imposed by pro-Iranian factions and the government forces for more than two months. Finally, an agreement was reached between the parties to the conflict under Russian auspices on a ceasefire and the entry of government forces into the besieged neighborhoods.
