Children killed, injured in landmine explosion in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
Deir ez-Zor, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, two children lost their lives and two others were injured in a landmine explosion in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A source of the families of the children in the town of al-Bahra, 100 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said that the two children, Shihab al-Hamad, 3, and his cousin Nazem al-Hamad, 2, lost their lives in a landmine explosion on the edge of a road near their house.
The sources added that the girl, Sahar al-Thawab, 7, and the child Jassem al-Hamad, 3, were wounded by shrapnel in the same explosion.
The two injured children were taken to a hospital in the city of Hajin, 110 km east of Deir ez-Zor, “they are in the ICU and need surgeries to extract the shrapnel,” according to a doctor in the hospital.
The children were playing near their home on a dirt road near the automatic bakery in the center of the town when the mine exploded, according to their families.
The remnants of the war are still threatening the lives of residents of various Syrian regions, including the villages and towns of the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which witnessed previous battles during the years of war in Syria.
