International telecom companies to enter region soon: Syria’s AANES

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, an official in the Telecommunications Office in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) in Raqqa, north Syria, said that negotiations are being held with international companies in order to work in the region soon, aiming on improving telecommunications.

“Offers submitted by these companies have all been accepted, and studies are still in place to establish an accreditation plan for several companies,” said Ghandi al-Hasa, co-chair of AANES Telecommunications Office.

Al-Hasan attributes the reason for the delay of the work of some companies that AANES agreed with to work in the region “to the many offers submitted to activate their services.”

Several foreign companies submitted offers to the office and they are under negotiation currently and outcomes will be released later, according to al-Hasan.

He pointed out that the entry of new companies to the area will create competition among them, which will contribute to decreasing prices and reducing the number of intermediaries between the source and the subscriber, in addition to improving the quality of the internet and communications.

The main reason of low quality of the Internet and the high cost of packages is that they are sold in US dollars, which prompts the subscriber to buy small packages that do not suit his needs, according to the Telecommunications Office.

Currently, the Rcell company, which is a private and licensed company by the AANES, has been providing 4G Internet services technology since late 2018.

The Rcell broadcasts the service through a network of towers in the cities and towns of northeast Syria, and it is the first private internet service company in the region.
