Hijab imposed on female students in Syria’s al-Bab
AZAZ, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Directorate of Education of al-Bab city, in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, began forcing all female students in schools affiliated with it to wear hijab (a religious veil worn by many Muslim women) and prevent all kinds of adornments and make-up in those schools.
Al-Bab city has been under the control of Turkish-backed armed Syrian factions since 2017.
The Director of Education in al-Bab, Juma’ Kazkaz, issued the decision, which emphasized that all females must wear a white hijab and commit to it; the decision also banned mobile phones in schools under penalty of confiscation by the school administration.
Since the Turkish intervention in Syria in 2012, Turkey has worked to open several schools and centers to teach the Turkish language in the areas it controls in northwestern Syria.
