Coronavirus advisory committee in Syria warns against new wave of coronavirus
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Member of the Syrian government’s coronavirus advisory committee Nabough al-Awa said on Monday that Syria records daily infections with the Indian Delta variant, infections are increasing, and the country has not reached the peak yet.
The Delta variant is rapidly spreading, infects young people and can often be fatal, especially for those who neglect treatment, he said in a statement with the pro-government al-Madina FM radio.
The variant has various symptoms, including tonsillitis, backaches, severe weakness, and the inability to move.
al-Awa stressed that having the vaccine during this phase reduces the severity of symptoms, but adherence to preventative measures is the most beneficial action.
He stated that a new mutant called “African Mu” is spreading globally, but it has not yet reached Syria.
The coronavirus total toll in Syrian government-held areas has come up to 29,648 including 22,792 recoveries, and 2,083 deaths, according to the Syrian Ministry of Health.
