2 NDF militants killed in Syrian Desert

PALMYRA, Syria (North Press) – On Friday, unidentified gunmen killed two members of the pro-government National Defense Forces in the vicinity of the town of al-Amerea, in the middle of the Syrian Desert, while two other members were seriously wounded in the same attack.

The National Defense (NDF) mobile checkpoint was on al-Amerea-al-Sukhnah Road in the eastern countryside of Homs when it was attacked by armed men with weapons and hand grenades.

Waddah al-Jaber (a pseudonym), a member of the Military Police in the city of Palmyra, said that the government and NDF mobilized in the vicinity of the town of al-Amiriya and on al-Sukhnah Road, and they patrolled the main roads in search of the perpetrators of the attack.

The two wounded soldiers, Mahyar al-Ali and Khaled al-Hassan, were from the town of Salamiyah in Hama countryside, and they were transferred to a hospital in al-Sukhnah for treatment, the source told North Press.

It is believed that the attackers were from Islamic State sleeper cells, although ISIS did not claim responsibility for the attack, according to the same source.
